Power Up and Pay Down: NSW Launches Game-Changing $557 Million Home Energy Saver Program
Big news for New South Wales households! The NSW Government has officially launched its massive $557 million Home Energy Saver program. If you have been waiting for the right moment to upgrade your home's energy efficiency, slash your power bills, and transition away from expensive gas or coal-reliant energy, this is your moment.
At Coast Wide Energy, we are thrilled to break down exactly what this program means for you and how you can take advantage of it today.
What is the Home Energy Saver Program?
The core of this new initiative is designed to remove the biggest barrier to energy efficiency: upfront costs.
The NSW Government is tackling this head-on by offering zero-interest loans of up to $15,000 with a generous 10-year repayment term. This means you can install premium, bill-busting upgrades now and let the energy savings help pay for the system over time—without paying a single cent in interest.
What Upgrades Can You Get?
This program covers a wide range of smart home improvements. You can bundle multiple upgrades under the loan, including:
Rooftop Solar & Home Batteries: Generate your own clean energy and store it for when electricity prices peak.
Heat Pump Hot Water Systems: Swap out old, inefficient water heaters for modern, high-efficiency heat pumps.
Reverse-Cycle Air Conditioning: Stay perfectly comfortable all year round with zone-controlled, efficient heating and cooling.
Induction Cooktops: Upgrade your kitchen to fast, safe, and entirely electric cooking.
Home Insulation & Draught-Proofing: Keep the elements out and the comfort in, drastically reducing your daily heating and cooling needs.
Switchboard Upgrades: Ensure your home’s electrical infrastructure is safe and fully ready for modern solar and battery loads.
Who is Eligible?
The scheme is structured to support low-to-middle-income families across the state, making energy equity a top priority:
The Zero-Interest Loan Tier: Available to households with an annual income of up to $210,000.
The Discount Tier (Coming Soon): Later this year, households earning under $80,000 (as well as concession card holders) will be eligible for direct discounts of up to $4,000 on their energy upgrades.
Renters Welcome: If you rent your home, you can still apply for the program, provided you have your landlord’s permission.
Why Act Now?
This state initiative lands alongside NSW's largest-ever renewable energy tenders, designed to replace retiring coal stations and stabilize the grid. By modernizing your home today, you insulate yourself against fluctuating wholesale market prices and future-proof your property.
Combined with existing federal small-scale technology certificates (STCs), there has quite literally never been a more affordable time to make the switch to a fully electric, highly efficient home.
