The Batteries Program would offer a subsidy of up to 30% off the cost of purchasing and installing a new home battery, with the goal of supporting over one million new batteries for house and business.
How Will the Program Work?
- Eligibility: The battery would support "Virtual Power Plant (VPP)” installed alongside new or existing solar panels, with a capacity between 5-50kWh.
- Subsidy: The subsidy would be approximately $272 per kilowatt-hour of usable capacity, minus any admin fees and charges.
- Delivery: The program would be delivered under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), which already offers subsidies for rooftop solar.
- Batteries installed from now to July 1 will also be eligible, but cannot be switched on until July 1.
